"The phoenixes dwelled in Wutong Mountain, and the fairies played in the pool of the Heaven".
 
        Wutong Mountain with cloud and mist surround year round, giving it a blurred and unreal appearance, topping "Xin'an's Eight Scenic Spots" in ancient times, densely wooded and with winding streams, is the highest peak in Shenzhen. It is among such a wonderful mountain that Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden is located.
        The garden with an area of 590 hectares was begun to build in 1982, and opened to the public on May 1, 1988. It is a base primarily for scientific research and education as well as
 
 
tourist attraction. A range of scenic spots has been constructed in the garden.
        There are such sixteen collections with more than 3,000 species conserved in the garden as ex situ conservation center for cycads, magnolia garden, petrified forest, cacti & succulents , palm garden, gymnosperms, rare & endangered trees garden, bamboos garden, cycad garden, shade plants garden, medical plants garden, fruits garden, aquatic plants garden, bonsai garden, ferns garden and peach garden.
        Covered with lush lawns and dotted with coconut and palm trees, the plam garden presents a strong tropical landscape. In shade plants garden, insectivorous plants are on the look out for prey while brightly-colored Oncidium orchids look like maids in an imperial palace performing beautiful dances. In the petrified forest, the agated woods proudly stand upright, and their rings and grains were never obliterated in the hundreds of millions years, and it seems to tell the great change of the earth. In the desert greenhouse, cacti
and succulents vie with each other for glamour. In the first rays of the morning sun, the ring of bells and the recitation of scriptures in the temple fill people with deep veneration, In the setting sun, the garden is so picturesque with the bright ripples spreading on the lake and the green trees and pavilions reflected in the water......What a wonderful and intoxicating garden!
