Shade Plant Zone

Shade Plant Zone covers a land area of 5000m2. Nearly 70 families and one thousand species of shade-tolerant and semi-shade-tolerant plants including fern, araceae, orchidaceae, begoniaceae, zingiberaceae, marantaceae, liliaceae, agavaceae, amaryllidaceae and bromeliaceae. In this zone, you can view the national conserved Class I plant titled Alsophila spinulosa existed in 180 million years before; you can also view carnivore nepenthes, which looks like pig cage in shape to attract insects to come in and then digests them with secretion; can also view cathaya argyrophylla honored as “Panda of plant”; there are over 200 species of arethusa, like dendrobium nobile, phalaenopsis amabilis Bl., cattleya hybrida, phaius tankervilliae(Aiton)Bl., bulbophyllum, cymbidium hybridum, cymbidium sinense and faber cymbidum; there are also Psilotum nudum (L.) Beauv., platycerium here; you can also find national conserved Class I plants like Camellia nitidissima Chi, araceae konjac, Lacy tree philodendron, anthurium scheranum and acorus tatarinowii in this zone. Various species and unique flower endow a wonderful plant world. This zone is a an important place for middle school students and citizens to learn more about plants and to experience “biological diversity”.
