Fairylake Botanical Garden was started preparation of construction in 1983, and formally opened to the public in 1988. Covering a land area of 546 hectares, the garden is a famous botanical garden in South China and an important site for collection and conservation of regional plant species resources. This garden is engaged in collecting tropical and subtropical plants, and strives for developing into a regional exhibition and R&D platform for important plant resources in China. At present, 17 special categorized gardens have been completed construction, performed 12 plants research, and collected over 8,000 species of conservation plants.
Special categorized Gardens
Fairylake Botanical Garden is located at South Asia tropical region with equable climate and rich rainfall. The garden enjoys a diversified environment that is very suitable for various tropical and subtropical plants to grow. It provides an advantaged condition for wide special plant collection. At present, the following special categorized plant gardens have been completed construction:
National Cycadaceae Germplasm Resource Conservation Center, Magnoliids Garden, Rare & Endangered Tree Garden, Shade Plant Garden, Crepe Myrtle Garden, Palm Garden, Fruit Garden, Bamboo Garden, Spore Plant Garden, Introduction and Acclimatization Field, Bosai Garden, Aquatic Plant Garden, Desert Landscape Garden, Peach Blossom Garden, Medicinal Plant Garden and Gymnosperm Garden.
Plant Research:
Fairylake Botanical Garden is engaged in collecting and conserving plant species resources, and actively performs study on biological diversity and use of plant resources. Currently 12 plant research are carried out, including cycads plants, fern, magnoliids, Orchids, shade plants, gymnosperm, aquatic plants, bamboo, ancient and famous trees, palms, medicinal plants and aloe plants in details.
Aquatic Macrophyte Zone, covering a land area of 0.3 hectare and constructed since 1983, is located at west end of Fairylake.
Starting construction in 1991, Magnoliids Garden is located in the scenic spot of Heaven on Earth.
Covering a land area of 7,208m2, Butterfly & Orchids Valley Scenic Spot is located in hinterland of Heaven on Earth scenic spot.
Cycads are not only important ornamental plants, but also have significant economic values.
Aquatic macrophyte indicates the group physiological living on water environment.
Arethusa is a large family in angiosperm.
