Flora of Macau Bryophytes, Directory of Macau Bryophytes and Dwarfs in Plant Kingdom: Bryophytes Published

Deputy President of Shenzhen Urban Management Bureau Song Jianchun, Director of Greening and Forestry Department Ding Shaojiang and Deputy Director of Fairy Lake Botanical Garden and PhD. Zhang Li were invited by IACM to visit Macau and attend the launching ceremony of the books Flora of Macau Bryophytes, Directory of Macau Bryophytes and Dwarfs in Plant Kingdom: Bryophytes on 21 and 22 March 2010.

The launching ceremony was held on the afternoon of 21 March, and IACM Management Committee acting chairman Lei Wai Lung, Mr. Song Jianchun and PhD. Zhang Li made a presentation respectively about the compiling process and content of the books.

IACM Gardening Department and Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden began a 3-year-long special research about the Macau Bryophytes Diversity Survey from October 2006. The research achieved rich results and the three monographs are the core of the results. Dwarfs in Plant Kingdom: Bryophytes is China’s first Chinese/English bilingual public science book on bryophytes, which introduces the basic knowledge of bryophytes to readers through simple text and colorful pictures. Based on the survey data about Macau bryophytes in the past three years, Directory of Macau Bryophytes records detailed information (Chinese name, scientific name, habitat, world distribution, etc.) about a total of 103 species of Macau bryophytes, which belong to 34 genera and 63 families. It’s an essential reference book for the research and protection about Macau bryophytes. As a companion book of Directory of Macau Bryophytes, Flora of Macau Bryophytes records the 103 Macau bryophytes in detail. Keys to families and genera are included in the book, and one or more color photos are attached to over 97% species, which is one and the only one in the floras across the world, creating a new mode to compile a flora.

These three books will play an active role in spreading the popular science of bryophytes and looking into the diversity, resources and protection of bryophytes in Macau and neighbouring regions.
