Butterflies and Orchid Garden Opened Yesterday in Fairy Lake Botanical Garden

Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, which is always famous for the plants leisure culture, is well received by citizens thanks to its elegant appearance, rich plants collection and plants culture shows as well as multilevel scientific researches. Following the 16 special gardens, the brand-new Butterflies and Orchid Garden was also opened to the public officially on 18 June, 2009.

With an area of 7208 m2, the Butterflies and Orchid Garden is a special garden for the appreciation, collection and scientific research of orchids. It is divided into three viewing areas: Butterflies Viewing Area, Orchids Viewing Area and Orchid Valley. The Butterflies Viewing Area consists of a display zone for living butterflies and two fan-shaped butterfly herbariums. Visitors could see the butterflies’ living condition and the growth in different stages of their life at the display zone, and at the herbariums, they could enjoy a variety of butterfly specimens and learn something about butterflies. The Orchids Viewing Area shows the visitors a wide range of beautiful orchids. The Orchid Valley features sufficient sunshine, moist air, rich humus on the ground and suitable temperature, delivering comfortable experience to visitors. At the Butterflies and Orchid Garden, visitors could enjoy a variety of colorful dancing butterflies and learn all kinds of scientific knowledge about orchids and butterflies. As of now, the Garden has collected and demonstrated 400 kinds of orchids, 30 kinds of butterflies and 700 kinds of other plants. The Garden provides tourists with an ideal destination to enjoy the orchids and butterflies, close to the nature, cultivate the temperament and increase the awareness for biodiversity protection, playing a significant role in the ex-situ conservation and sustainable utilization of China’s orchid resources.
