Fairy Lake Botanical Garden Attends “Early Land Plants” Academic Conference in US

Our PhD. Zhang Li and Postgraduate Zhou Lanping were invited by Encyclopedia of Life and Biodiversity Synthesis Group to attend the academic conference “Early Land Plants” at Field Museum, Chicago, US from May 25 to May 29, 2009. The Conference was held to collect and integrate the digital resources of land plants, especially the bryophytes across the world. About 30 senior bryophytes experts and postgraduates attended the Conference. The Conference had an in-depth discussion about how to complete the comprehensive research about the list, geographic distribution and some important categories of the global bryophytes. Our Garden would join in the research about Frullaniaceae. During the Conference, PhD. Zhang Li delivered a speech titled Hengduan Mountains:An International Hotspot of Bryophytes Diversity. After the Conference, he visited Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Missouri Botanical Garden, California Academy of Sciences and more to discuss possible exchange and cooperation. Mr. Zhang Li collected more than 100 samples when doing fieldwork at Round Bluff Nature Reserve in Illinois, Purisima Creek Reserve in California and Yosemite National Park, etc.
