Invited by Botanic Gardens Conservation International and Federation for Botanic Gardens Public Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fairy Lake Botanical Garden attended the World Botanic Gardens Exhibition at 2008 Olympic Games.

By demonstrating specific cases about plant diversity and environmental protection from botanic gardens across the world, the World Botanic Garden Exhibition at 2008 Olympic Games was held in a bid to: increase people’s awareness and responsibility to protect the plants and environment, promote the biodiversity conservation, show the significant role of botanic gardens in the biodiversity conservation, help the public learn about the function of botanic gardens, stress the importance of plant and environmental protection, strengthen the cooperation and exchange among botanic gardens around the world to provide valuable experience for similar international events, etc.

With beautiful scenery, Fairy Lake Botanical Garden was committed to scientific research and innovation, biodiversity conservation and public science education, etc. Cycas debaoensis features high scientific and ornamental values, so they were dug out and stolen frequently, leading this rare and endangered species to almost go extinct. In order to save Cycas debaoensis, we did a lot of research on its biodiversity conservation and species reconstruction, and sent 500 selected small Cycas debaoensis to its hometown Guangxi Huanglian Mountain Nature Reserve in April, 2008. We told the story at the Exhibition.

“One World, One Dream” has been completely extended to the global botanic gardens. Good natural environment and ecological environment are the prerequisite for people to maintain good health and a healthy body is the basis for people to achieve the Olympic spirit of “Faster, Higher and Stronger”. Green plants play an irreplaceable role in maintaining the eco-system stability and human being’s survival and development, while botanic gardens are the important bases to protect these plant species genes. The Olympic Games has gathered athletes all over the world to share the Botanic gardens across the world are committed to the diversity conservation of local plants, making great contributions to the global plant diversity conservation. There is a deep and close connection between Olympic Games and global botanic gardens, which are both striving for human being’s green dream.
