Journal of Systematics and Evolution Editorial Committee and Evolutionary Biology and DNA Barcode Symposium was held in Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden on February 17 and 18, 2009. The Symposium was jointly organized by Institute of Botany Chinese Academy of Sciences and Botanical Society of China, and was sponsored by Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden. A total of 80 famous experts and scholars from US, Canada, Japan, China, Taiwan and other regions attended the Symposium.
The opening ceremony was held on the morning of February 17, and Shenzhen Deputy Mayor Lv Ruifeng attended the opening ceremony and gave a speech. He congratulated on the convening of the Symposium and expressed warm welcome to the attendees. Member of Institute of Botany Chinese Academy of Sciences Hong Deyuan gave a speech at the Symposium.
After the opening ceremony, attendees had a heated discussion and 16 domestic and foreign experts gave speeches at the Symposium, including PhD. David DILCHER with American Academy of Science (AAS), PhD. James A. DOYLE from University of California and Fairy Lake Botanical Garden Researcher Chen Tao. On February 18, the Symposium discussed the development target and Five-Year Plan of Journal of Systematics and Evolution, commemorative activities for Darwin’s 200th birthday, etc.
Held in Shenzhen, the Symposium promoted Shenzhen’s exchange and cooperation with domestic and foreign peers in the botany, genomics and other research fields. It’s also to the benefit of Shenzhen plant resources’ effective protection and reasonable development & utilization.
